About Wayne
Wayne Broughton grew up in B.C. and has lived and taught in Kelowna for 26 years. He is married to an amazing woman and father to two great kids, one still in public school in the district and the other attending McGill Law School.
Wayne is a mathematics professor at UBCO and the winner of two “Golden Apple” teaching awards (nominated by students) for helping students find value in the learning process and subject matter. Wayne coaches and organizes UBCO students participating in a prestigious university-level mathematics competition, and has volunteered with the regional high school math contests and school science fairs. He was also a member of the Kelowna Secondary School PAC Executive, and was a past representative to COPAC (Central Okanagan Parent Advisory Council). Wayne has also taught classes at the Society for Learning in Retirement.
Wayne is a past board member and Treasurer at Kelowna Unitarians, a co-founder and volunteer with peer support group TransParent Okanagan, and a member of both the Positive Space Committee and the Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Committee at UBCO. He is an active participant and volunteer for Kelowna Pride and a sponsor for Kelowna Pride events. Wayne participates in a sponsorship committee that helps settle refugees in Kelowna and he helped run the local Proportional Representation campaign (Fair Vote Kelowna).
